Vale da Porca

   Macedo de Cavaleiros

Vale da Porca is situated on the right bank of the Azibo River, affluent of the Sabor River, about 3.5km NE of Road 216 between Macedo de Cavaleiros and the parish of Olmos.

It presents a very rich artistic and religious heritage. In its parish Church we can find a 17th century fountain in the sacristy, as well as important representation of two young men from the 18th century, siding the high altar. The Chapels of Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady Conceição and St. Sebastian, with a curious cross pilory dedicated to Lord of Boa Morte compose its religious heritage.

Another patrimonial reference is the elegant roman bridge and the watermills. This parish has produced lime until the middle of the 20th century. Evidence of that are the traces of two first generation ovens situated near the roman bridge. Next to this are the 19th century railway bridge and the railway station. Although being rundown, it is still worth visiting.

About 5 km South we find the St Ambrósio Sanctuary, one of the most important worship sites from all Northeast, with a church and chapel dedicated to this Saint.

Between this sanctuary and the Azibo Lagoon you can find the Banzeres village ruins, where you can still see the remains of mills, houses, church, noria, fountains and a bridge.
