Rural Museum of Salselas

The Rural Museum of Salselas is, by nature, ethnographic. Its remains are made up of the two most relevant aspects of the human presence in any village of Trás-os-Montes: the human universe and the society.

The first aspect is represented by the objects that the rustic man created to better adapt himself to the surrounding universe in a particular period of time and space. Other objects show us practices of praying for protection to supernatural forces.

The other aspect of this rural society is represented by a group of objects that give us an idea of the customs concerning family and social relationships. These objects are an example of the art created by popular intuition.

In this museum we can also find objects that reflect the transition from the Rural World to the Industrial Civilization, in which Salselas fits in.
