
Hydrographical Basin
The Azibo Lagoon is formed by three water lines – Azibo River (50 km) and the Riveside of Azibeiro (7,3 Km) and of Reguengo (7,8 Km) – and it is a part of the hydrographical basin of Sabor River, which is a branch of Douro River.
Azibo River starts in the Nogueira mountains, near the place of Rebordainhos, next to Teixedo Farm. It goes through the council of Macedo de Cavaleiros, where for irrigation proposes, a earthfill dam was built near Santa Combinha, in 1982. It flows into Sabor River, close to Lagoa, in the border of the Macedo de Cavaleiros council.
Azibo Lagoon has got an hydro potential cumulative of 54,5hm3, it expands through an area of 410 Ha, being 56 meters high. Oriented by Northeast Southeast direction and with a configuration of 12 Km and 7 Km of length, it has the following coordinates: latitude 41º 32´ 50´´ North, longitude 6º 53´38´´ West and altitude of 602 meters above sea level.
