Central Core

   Salselas - Macedo de Cavaleiros

 Azibo's Lagoon Protected Landscape Central Core is located just by the side of Azibo's Lagoon in the parish of Salselas. It can be reached from the village of Salselas and from the village of Vale da Porca. In this building complex are, the future installations of the Macedo de Cavaleiros's Ecoteca, a space dedicated to environment education, an auditory with 50 places, and the Museum-Room of Archaeology.

 The Museum Room of Archaeology is part of a project that started in 2003, where visitors may find some of the remains found in the diggings made by the Associação Terras Quentes- association in defence of the Archaeological heritage in the council of Macedo de Cavaleiros. There you can find the following collections:

Barrow of Santo Ambrósio

 Megalithic monument, which goes back to the Neolithic age, and the only one registered in the Council of Macedo de Cavaleiros.

Crow’s Crag

A First Bronze Age habitat. among the remains in the exhibition, where you can find a sand box which belonged to a foundry area.

Romanized village of Cramanchão

The remains, dating from the Roman period, are assorted, and include a millstone (with sleeper and motory pieces), a decorated Terra Sigillata Hispânica (typical pottery from the Roman period), a complete vase taken from the corner of walls of one of the houses, roman coins, a projectile, fibulae, fragments of bracelets, sewing and press weights, among many other period pieces.

Miner Village of Bovinho

The items exposed consist of a fragment of Late Terra Sigillata Hispânia, where several objects can be seen, such as the image of an Emperor’s head, seeds, a piece of a millstone and slag, among others.

















Roman Oven of Barreiros

Two clay blocks are exposed. As far as we know, this is the fourth oven found in all Iberian Peninsula, this one being the best preserved.

Roman Old Castle of Terronha de Pinhovelo

From all the estate collected and exhibited, we call special attention to a stamped reverse coin representing the myth of the female-wolf which fed Romulus and Remus, founders of Rome; a zoomorphic fibula (from a horse), rings, a fragment decorated plaque with jet, a cameo and pieces from a board game.

Necropolis of Sobreirinho

You can see a real size tombs replica found there (tomb 2).

Pegada’s Crag

Pegada’s Crag is an engraved stone, part of the so called Iberian Schematic Art. In the twelve panels which are part of it you can find dimples, plain circles, horseshoes, footsteps (single or in pairs), several cross-shaped motifs from different types, a possible anthropomorphic interpretation and other motifs difficult to interpret.
